The Japanese way

The last issue of InterweaveKnits has a story about Shibori, the art of "manipulating fabric to create textural and color effects" (Quote from IK fall 2005). I was immediately intrigued by the colorful pictures and by the prospect of working with some of these techniques myself. Yesterday I took a trip down under to take a look at what is going on at six and a half stitches. And Allison has done it, shibori felted an amazing burgundy colored piece, with pretty little bubbles of unfelted fabric all over it. Go take a look! I can't wait to see what her final product turns out to be. It's fun to see that the technique is actually as simple, but a lot of work, as I thought it would be, and Allison's good results gives me some reassurance that I might actually be able to do this myself. I have a project on my mind, and have been mentally workning on it a few days, even picked out some yarn!

Chockolate Cover is spending the day alone - it is too hot to knit with that type of fussy wool. I might just have to get started on the second Broadripple sock.
